The 1985 song "We Are The World" takes on new meaning in wake of the recent tragic earthquake in Haiti.
Producer Quincy Jones and Lionel Richie, who co-wrote the song with the late Michael Jackson, planned to organize a re-recording of the song on January 28, the 25th anniversary, according to Billboard and The Hollywood Reporter.
The devastation in Haiti impacted the plans.
The new version will now benefit the impoverished country, and the recording date has changed to Monday, February 1, which is the day following the Grammys, sources told Billboard.
Usher, Natalie Cole, and John Legend have reportedly been invited to participate.
Grammy producer Ken Ehrlich is said to be the producer for the event to take place at the Nokia Theater. There are talks of the recording being made into a music video and single like the original.
A spokesperson for Quincy Jones told Yahoo! Music that it was too early to confirm details. "This is all in the very preliminary stages, so we don't have any information to give out as of yet," the spokesperson said in an email.
The first recording raised money to aid famine relief in Africa.
Twenty-one artists billed as USA For Africa sang on the song, including Richie, Stevie Wonder, Paul Simon, Jackson, Diana Ross, Bruce Springsteen, Bob Dylan, and Ray Charles. Twenty-two additional celebrities appeared in the video.
